    A ghastly story of murder and execution, ghosts and witchcraft, of dreadful diseases, foul stinks, overflowing graveyards and poo! Join the Ipswich Tour Guides on a truly gruesome walking tour for all of the family exploring the astonishing history of our ancestors and the amazing buildings of our town.

    The Gory Story of Ipswich for Families is ideal for children aged 7 to 12 years and their well-behaved adults. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. All tickets are priced at the same level, whether you're a grown-up or a kid. Children under 5 years can accompany their paying family members and friends for free and do not need to book their space on the tour.

    Places are limited and should be booked in advance to guarantee your place on the tour.

    Important Information:

    All walks start promptly from the Ipswich Tourist Information Centre, please arrive 15 minutes before departure time for registration.

    No tickets are issued for these walks, but your name and booking reference will be checked during registration before the walk starts.

    All walkers (including accompanying adults) must purchase a ticket. Children under 5 do not need a ticket.

    Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

    Ipswich Tourist Guides Association reserves the right to change walks without notice due to prevailing conditions on the day and accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to property or injury to persons.


    Most walks cover the centre of Ipswich or the Waterfront where the terrain is flat and where there are good pavements. Routes are usually negotiable by and suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. The guides will adapt their walks and content to reflect the needs of those attending. Guide/assistance dogs are welcome, but may not be permitted in certain buildings.
